As each day passes, the players for the Dynamo Academy get closer and closer to the GA Cup, one of the most important fixtures in the world of US developmental football.

For the U15s and the U17s, their time to perform is almost here, as this weekend they head to Colorado for the GA Cup regional qualifiers.

The regional qualifiers feature play between teams that have been organized into four groups. In each group, the top two performing teams will move on to play in Division 1 of the GA Cup. The next two ranked teams in the group will play in Division 2, and every team that places lower will move on to Division 3 play in the GA Cup.

The Dynamo have an opportunity to make the most of their games this weekend. Not only will they have a chance to play for an important tournament, they will also have a chance to develop by competing against some of the best youth players in the nation.

“You’re really trying to show all the hard work, the player development, what you’ve been doing for the last year, 2 years 3 years with all these players that have been in the system,” U17 head coach Brian Reed said, “We really want to say ‘hey, these guys are on the cusp of taking the next step’. That’s what this event is really about.

Both teams leave on Thursday for Colorado to play in the first stage of the GA Cup at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The Dynamo play a game every day but Sunday this weekend before returning back to Houston on Tuesday.

With a good performance this weekend, the U15s and U17s could be well on their way to playing in Division 1 for a chance to shine on a national, and even international, stage.

The GA Cup presents the players an opportunity to show their skills to a much broader audience, but the players know that a good performance will be result of their hard work and ability to shrug off pressure. This weekend will be a good test of how far the teams have developed, and the players will be eager to prove just how good they have gotten.
